Years of Excellence
For over twenty years, UgoCert has championed organic integrity across Uganda and beyond — empowering farmers, certifying excellence, and connecting African harvests to global markets with trust, transparency, and unwavering commitment to sustainable agriculture and community development.
The seeds of UgoCert were planted within National Organic Agricultural Movement of Uganda, (NOGAMU). At the time, Ugandan organic farmers and exporters were entirely dependent on expensive international certification bodies, creating significant barriers to market acces. NOGAMU recognized that for Uganda's organic sector to truly flourish, a locally-owned, affordable certification body was essential.
Stakeholder consultations began accross the country, bringing together farmer cooperatives, exporters and development partners to design a certification system rooted in Ugandan reality yet credible enough for international markets. The vision was clear: a certification body owned by the movement it served, governed by principles of impartiality and transparency.

UgoCert (Uganda Organic Certification Company) was formally established as a certification body, owned by NOGAMU with a mandate to serve Uganda's growing organic sector. The founding board brought together experts in agriculture, international trade, and quality assurance, establishing headquarters in Kampala at P.O. Box 33743
In a remarkable achievement for a newly formed organization, UgoCert secured inclusion in the European Union's third-country list of approved certification bodies under Commission Regulation (EC) No 1235/2008. Assigned code number UG-BIO-124, UgoCert could now certify organic products for export to the EU market. This landmark recognition opened European doors for Ugandan coffee, cotton, and horticulture, giving farmers access to premium markets previously out of reach.

"UgoCert represents one of our greatest achievements as an organic movement. We founded this certification body specifically to hasten certification processes and reduce costs for Ugandan farmers who previously relied on expensive international certifiers. Seeing UgoCert grow from an idea we nurtured into Uganda's trusted national certifier fills us with immense pride. Their independent verification gives our member exporters credibility in European and American markets while keeping certification accessible to the smallholder farmers who form the backbone of Uganda's organic sector."
"As an organic honey exporter, I needed certification that would be recognized internationally without breaking the bank. UgoCert delivered exactly that. Their inspectors understood the unique challenges of beekeeping operations and provided practical recommendations for compliance rather than just pointing out problems. The certification process was transparent from application to certificate issuance, and their online verification system gives my international buyers instant confidence in my products. I've recommended UgoCert to five other beekeeping operations in Northern Uganda.”
"As a specialty coffee exporter, UgoCert certification has been instrumental in building trust with our roaster partners in Europe and North America. Buyers specifically ask for UgoCert verification because they know our organic claims are backed by rigorous third-party inspection. The certification process is thorough but fair, with inspectors who genuinely understand coffee production and post-harvest handling. We've maintained certification for seven consecutive years, and the UgoCert team has supported us through every renewal and market expansion."
